‘Big Brother’ 20 episode 35 recap: Julie Chen returns to CBS to host season’s first Double Eviction [UPDATING LIVE BLOG]

Julie Chen took some time away from “The Talk” to be with her family in the wake of her husband Les Moonves being fired as CBS’s chairman and CEO, but she made her triumphant return to the network on Thursday to host the first double eviction episode of “Big Brother” Season 20. At the start of the hour the house voted to evict either Haleigh Broucher or Sam Bledsoe, both of whom had been nominated by Head of Household Kaycee Clark. The remaining houseguests then played an entire week’s worth of “Big Brother” including competitions for HOH and Veto. A second houseguest was evicted by the time the final credits rolled. So how did it all play out?

SEE ‘Big Brother 20’ spoilers: Who is Week 12 Head of Household considering for eviction nominations?

9:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘Big Brother’!” In Wednesday’s episode Sam exploded in the Diary Room after being nominated for eviction for the first time since Week 1. She and Haleigh then joined the other players in competing for the Veto medallion in the “BB Comics” challenge, which Kaycee easily won. Will the house choose to evict Haleigh because she’s the biggest threat, or will they send Sam home for being unstable? And who will be tonight’s second evictee? Let’s go!

9:05 p.m. – With Haleigh still on the block, everyone is planning for what happens next. Kaycee tells Tyler Crispin, Angela Rummans and Brett Robinson that if it’s a double eviction this week, JC Mounduix and Sam should go up. Angela offers herself up as a pawn if one of them wins the Veto. Brett, however, has a secret plan. He pulls Tyler aside to discuss the potentially bitter jury. If they keep JC and Sam, they can easily beat them in the final HOH. Also, Brett tells Tyler if he sends Angela home it would make the jury very happy. Furthermore, Kaycee absolutely DESTROYED them in the last Veto. Unfortunately for Brett, Tyler doesn’t think he can beat Brett in the end and he has to put a stop to his plan.

9:10 p.m. – Tyler runs and tells Kaycee that Brett is gunning for her and Angela. Kaycee says they can beat him to it and if Brett isn’t the HOH he has to go on the block. Tyler still claims Kaycee is his number one but he doesn’t feel comfortable sitting next to Brett in the end. That is a warped view because Kaycee is the biggest threat to beating him there is.

9:15 p.m. – Julie breaks it to the houseguests that it is double eviction night, so it’s time to vote! Haleigh and Sam both gave pretty tame, boring speeches. Then, as expected, everyone voted to evict Haleigh.

9:25 p.m. – Earlier today the houseguests watched short video clips of previous competitions. Those clips hold the key to becoming the new HOH. As the outgoing HOH, Kaycee is not eligible to compete. In this competition, Julie will play back the clips one at a time, but they will stop. The players will be given two options for what happens next. For each correct answer they will receive one point. At the end of seven rounds, the player with the most points will be crowned the HOH. With six points, Tyler wins the HOH!

9:30 p.m. – In a quick one-on-one before the commercial break, we see Tyler telling Brett NOT to try to win the Veto. Tyler says, “Let me take the blood.” Why would anyone trust that? Who WANTS blood on their hands? To me it sounds like a plan to backdoor Brett and we will see if Brett falls for it or not. If he’s smart, he’ll play to win that veto!

9:35 p.m. – It’s time for the live nomination ceremony to begin! Tyler nominates JC and Sam for eviction. They both look terrified. But are either of them really Tyler’s target this week?

9:40 p.m. – It’s time for the Power of Veto competition! In “Block and Roll,” players place their colored blocks on a board, so that when they roll a ball through the course, it lands in the desired pocket at the end. Angela makes quick work of the course, winning the Power of Veto! Will the nominations change or stay the same? Tyler is stressing because he knows someone he’s been lying to all season is about to go home on his watch! Angela plans to take JC off the block and her and Tyler already have a speech planned to backdoor Brett! Brett thinks they’re sending Sam home.

9:50 p.m. – It’s time for the Veto meeting! After using the Power of Veto on JC she says, “I call this move being one step ahead.” Tyler follows it up with saying, “I call this being two steps ahead. Brett, take a seat.” Before the commercial break, Brett stands up and walks to the front of the room, glaring at the other houseguests. I wish we could watch what is happening! Angela does herself no favors with her constant snarky remarks. Tyler can spare a few, but Angela has pissed off the entire jury. If I was in that house I would be desperately trying to sit next to her at the end.

9:55 p.m. – We now return for the second live vote and eviction. Sam is in tears and Brett looks like he’s still in shock. Sam says she loves everyone. Brett says he wasn’t prepared for this and said he played nothing but a loyal game. He then begged them not to send him to that house with “Blockstar” aka Rockstar Lantry. Then, in a unanimous vote, Brett is evicted from the “Big Brother” house. Sam promised to pack his bag nice and tidy.

9:59 p.m. – We will find out who the next HOH is on Sunday. Julie informed us that the next eviction will take place on Wednesday, and then a second person will be evicted Thursday. Things move quickly in the final weeks! After next week, only three will remain. Who do you hope wins it all? Sound off in the comments!
